What’s Effective Altruism (EA)?
Effective altruism (EA) is a movement and community that studies and acts on the most pressing problems in the world. Effective altruists use evidence, reason, and collaborative discussion to find out which problems are most pressing. Then, they take action, dedicating their careers and hundreds of millions of dollars annually to the world’s worst problems.
What’s Saint Louis EA?
Saint Louis Effective Altruism is a local chapter of this global movement. Our ambition is creating a space for compassionate individuals to meet likeminded individuals and find ways to maximize our positive impact on the world.
What Do You Do?
Saint Louis EA is guided by our theory of change—a step-by-step description of how we make a difference in the world. Our theory of change is summarized in the 3 steps below.
1
Draw motivated, compassionate, and open-minded altruists to our community.
2
Support altruists through social activities, programming about altruism (cost-effectiveness, marginal impact), and practical workshops (career plans, interview prep).
3
By helping members pursue high impact causes, become an organization that multiplies their impacts.
